Ross Chell, the 11-year-old from Templeton, has become the 2009 Honda Cadet Welsh Champion.
Ross, who played a strategic game over the two days of racing at the South Wales Karting Centre at Llandow, allowed his main rival, Robbie Gallier, to dominate the heats and qualifying races, allowing Chell to preserve his tyres for the one that counted, the final.
Gallier started in pole position, with Niall Williams from Pembroke in second and Ross starting from third.
Ross was able to pass both Gallier and Williams on the first lap where he stayed until the chequered flag was waved and Niall finishing in fourth completing the 1,050-metre track in a time of 51.85 seconds and an average speed of 48 mph.
Ross, who is supported by the family business of Chell Construction, can now carry the coverted C plate instead of numbers at all races in the UK for 12 months.
Rob Chell, Ross's father, carries out all race preparation on the kart and can be seen centre in the photograph, with Ross on the left and the little rascal and one to look out for in the future, his brother, Morgan, on the right!
