Tenby's globe-trotting heroine, Rosie Swale-Pope, has a new adventure to look forward to!

For she's off to Buckingham Palace to meet HM The Queen after being awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List.

The 62-year-old grandmother has been recognised for her charitable services.

The accolade comes just four months after Rosie successfully completed her now famous 20,000-mile gruelling round-the-world run to raise awareness for prostate cancer - which claimed the life of her husband Clive - and champion the cause of orphans cared for by the Kitezh community in Russia.

Crowds of well-wishers lined the streets of her final steps home to give the town's very own 'superwoman' a well-deserved welcome back and she's been quick to pay tribute to everyone who helped and supported her during her five-year epic challenge.

"I'm very excited and it's very nice, but my MBE belongs to my family, friends and the whole community of Tenby who have supported me," she told the Observer.

"Nothing like this has ever happened to me before and it's all thanks to Mayor, Sue Lane, and Ann Rowell, and everyone who helped me on my journey, including the wonderful Rotary Club and Inner Wheel Club.

"My MBE's also for the wonderful doctors and nurses at Withybush Hospital who looked after Clive.

"I'm very very honoured and highly delighted."

Rosie boasts an impressive CV of successful challenges around the world. She's sailed to Australia and back around Cape Horn with her young family in a catamaran, single-handedly crossed the Atlantic in a 17-foot boat, trekked 3,000 miles through Chile on horseback and run across the Sahara Desert.

What's more, just months before setting out on her global run on her 57th birthday in October 2003, she trekked 700 miles across the 'roof of the world' from Hilsa on the Tibetan border to Pasupati Nagar on the Indian border to raise money for one of Britain's smallest charities, the Nepal Trust.

And of course, the Tenby Turkeys and St. Clears Trots member has completed many notable marathons - London, Dublin, Snowdon, Cardiff, Loch Ness, Eastbourne, Cuba, and Chicago, which she did whilst on her world expedition!

But whether or not she will make the journey to Buckingham Palace on foot remains to be seen!

For the time being, Rosie's busy writing the final chapters of her book to be published by Harper Collins in May.

"This is the hardest part of all now writing my book because the deadline's next week."

Rosie has a daughter Eve, son James and grandchildren Michael and Lucy.
