Teams from the Mind Pembrokeshire ‘Roots to Recovery’ project, have been out and about across the county in recent days, carrying out voluntary work.

The Pembroke Group were out working hard preparing an overgrown area ready to create and plant up a Fern Garden on the Mill Pond walk.

Much ivy and bramble and other unwanted greenery was removed, with the team set to return in a couple of weeks, to get planting and finish the job.

There are a few more jobs lined up around Pembroke Castle and the Mill Pond for the coming months, including planting bulbs around the William Marshal statue.

“Really enjoying being able to make a difference to this area, very rewarding and always lovely when locals walk pass and say thank you to the group for their efforts,” said a spokesperson for Roots to Recovery.

“Want to say a big thank you to the lovely ladies at Pembroke Town Hall where we meet up before activities, always so helpful and accommodating and absolutely wonderful with our group members too! Thank you for having us.

Earlier in the week, as part of the ‘Mentor Team Day’ members went on an impromptu beach clean at a wintry Newgale.

“We were a little unsure whilst driving there in the snow, but it turned out to be a lovely sunny day, not too cold either once we got to work!

“We managed to gather up 10 massive bags full of plastic nasties, and a load of bigger stuff we dragged up to be collected.

“Very sad to see the amount of micro-plastics in the tide line, we’ll continue to do what we can and bring a bigger group next time!

“Huge thanks to the mentor team for all your efforts, not only today but at each session - you’re all stars!” they added.

The team spotted a cool collection of goose barnacles and a few Portuguese Man o' War jellyfish in the tide line too, great to see these creatures but dog walkers best to give Newgale a miss for a while!
