A project to help bring back to life a garden at Withybush Hospital, continues to take shape.

The Roots to Recovery team from Mind Pembrokeshire have been working since the New Year on sprucing-up the Withybush Hospital garden in Haverfordwest.

Roots to Recovery is a people-led project, which is all about the restorative powers of Pembrokeshire’s amazing outdoors and especially its National Park.

The initiative is delivered in partnership by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Mind Pembrokeshire and supported through the National Lottery Community Fund.

This week, the mentor team returned for its fourth session at the site, and after a lot of sweat and hard graft, have now finished the preparation stages.

The team has dug out heavy carex grasses, transplanted shrubs, cleared debris and stuff past its best, weeded all the little cracks in the brickwork and finally dug off all the grass and weeded/rooted the soil.

Next will be a compost and topsoil delivery and spreading, building a hazel hurdle to act as a barrier and finally landscaping and planting up.

“We look forward to sharing photos of the dramatic transformation a little further along, nearly there now so stay tuned,” the Roots to Recovery team posted on social media.

“Huge thanks to everyone who has helped out so far with this amazing project - what a team!”

A programme of activities is available from ‘hubs’ at the Mind Pembrokeshire Resource Centre in Haverfordwest and the Hafal Resource Centre in Tenby.

Activities are designed to be accessible, fun and sometimes relaxing, with the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new friends.
