Charities and voluntary sector groups have been under great public scrutiny in recent months, with the high profile collapse of national charities through mismanagement, and concerns over the fundraising techniques adopted by some organisations.

Although these matters seem far removed from local groups, the problems that caused these issues are the same that face all small groups. Now, more than ever committee members need to be aware of their responsibilities.

To help local voluntary groups and charities avoid such situations, Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS) has planned a training course ‘Role of the Secretary, Meetings and Minutes’ being run on April 14, from 10 am - 1 pm, in the PAVS’ office in Haverfordwest.

The session will cover all aspects of running effective meetings, keeping accurate minutes and the responsibilities of being the secretary. The course is suitable for those new to the role; committee members or for those who wish to refresh their knowledge.

PAVS offers a full training programme developed to meet the needs of the voluntary sector. Future sessions include an Introduction to Crowd Funding; How to be an Effective Chair; Safeguarding Awareness; Google Office and an Introduction to Volunteer Management. Full details are available on the PAVS’ website.

PAVS’ training courses are affordable, at £15 per place on a half-day course, or £12 for PAVS’ members. Places are limited, so to book on the ‘Role of the Secretary, Meetings and Minutes’ course or for further information, email [email protected] or 01437 769422.
