One of the biggest rock icons of all time is set to perform in Tenby with the announcement that legendary singer Robert Plant will perform at the seaside resort’s De Valence Pavilion venue next month.
Plant will appear at the venue, located on Upper Frog Street with his band Saving Grace, a co-operative featuring vocalist Suzi Dian, percussionist Oli Jefferson, Tony Kelsey on mandolin, baritone and acoustic guitars, and Matt Worley on banjo, acoustic and baritone guitars, and cuatro.
The legendary frontman of 70s rock band Led Zeppelin, and his new band will be reworking a selection of diverse cover versions that have been collected from various places creating a musical journey in its truest form.
Speaking of the coup for the venue, Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown told her colleagues at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council that it was ‘tremendous for Tenby’ and puts the De Valence ‘on the map’.
“Having acts as big as this, shows us off as a venue, and that we’re not just some backwards seaside resort that does nothing of value to put entertainment on,” she remarked.
“Most of the people that come down for shows like this will stay in the town, and even after a gig, go out for drinks and food, so it’s good for the economy of Tenby. The community aspect is important for us,” continued Clr. Mrs. Brown.
Rockers Reef performed a sold out gig at the venue last summer, whilst critically acclaimed solo artist Newton Faulkner is also line-up to play at the De Valence in May.
“The Bad Manners gig recently saw an audience of 650 people attend - it was the highest bar take we’ve ever had at the venue, in a four and a half hour period! Things like that can only help us improve as a venue,” added the Deputy Mayor.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall said it was great to get acts such as Robert Plant in for their pre-tour warm-up gigs, and good for the community.
Saving Grace perform at the De Valence on Thursday, March 19, with doors opening at 6.30 pm.
