RNLI supporters across the Wales and West Mercia region are once again licking their lips in anticipation of the charity's seventh annual Fish and Chip Parties. The fun-filled fund-raisers have raised more than £40,000 for the RNLI since being introduced in 1999.

The Saundersfoot RNLI branch in Pembrokeshire are holding a supper today (Friday), while fund-raisers in the Narberth area will be tucking into the British favourite on March 12.

RNLI branches inland are also getting behind the money-spinner to celebrate the RNLI's 182nd anniversary with parties organised in Brierley Hill, Upton Warren and Worcester.

Fish and chips will be brought on to the platform at Kidderminster railway station on June 30, as a treat for passengers of a special train which will depart from Bridgnorth. RNLI supporters will be able to take in the Severn Valley though Bewdley and have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets before stopping off at their destination and tucking into a tasty platter.

Tickets which cost £12.50 are still available by calling Patrick Cheshire on 01588 620748. RNLI fund-raisers are delighted with the number of participants who have already signed up, but are keen to hear from more people across the region who would like to do their bit to help save lives at sea.

Phae Comber-Jones, RNLI regional fund-raising manager, said: "Fish and chip parties are a great way to have fun, celebrate the RNLI's birthday, and provide our volunteer crew members with vital funds to continue their lifesaving role."

Funds raised can go towards a specific project or lifeboat station, and anyone willing to help can order a pack, filled with ideas on how make the most of the parties.

Phae added: "Whether you're a luncheon club member or a pub regular looking to get together with friends and celebrate Britain's sea-faring tradition, it is certain to be a fun-filled party."

For a fund-raising pack, which includes a poster to advertise the event, a sample ticket, napkin, place card, balloon and disposable collecting box, please contact the RNLI regional office in Cardiff on 02920 456999.
