The sun shone on Sunday, July 14 - Sea Sunday - for the annual 'Brew for the Crew' strawberry tea held on Tenby Harbour.

A steady stream of customers, both local and visitors kept committee members busy and all agreed that the scones, cream and strawberries were delicious.

The event also coincided with the annual RNLI service held on the harbour outside St. Julian's Church.

The service was led by Major Martin Clements, of Tenby Salvation Army, and readers came from all the local churches. Major Clements stressed the sacrifices still made by RNLI crew members and read out the names of all the Tenby crew. The service was enhanced by visiting Salvation Army singers who soon had everyone singing in the sunshine.

The local RNLI fundraising committee is grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of the afternoon, particularly Major Clements, and also Tenby Sailing Club for kindly allowing us to prepare the teas on their premises. Over £500 was raised for the work of the RNLI, so well done to everyone concerned.

On the following Tuesday, four members of the committee were presented with RNLI awards at a ceremony held in the crew rooms of Tenby Lifeboat House.

Mr. James Vaughan, director of fundraising at RNLI headquarters in Poole, made the presentations and talked of the value of fundraising committees and of the fact that already this year RNLI rescues have touched over 25,000 people, including 500 whose lives had been saved. He was very appreciative of the hard work and dedication of RNLI fundraising committees all over the United Kingdom.

The first award presented was a silver brooch to Shan Thomas, mother of Tenby coxswain, Philip John and crewman Robert John. Shan has been a member since 1990.

Bronze badges were then presented to Nicole Evans and Christine Moore who joined the committee in 2001, and these were followed by a certificate of thanks which went to Sue Broomhead. Sue has been a member since 2004, and does sterling work as Doreen Mortimer's deputy in organising the shop.

A delicious tea, provided by the Tenby committee, was then enjoyed and Mr. Vaughan took the opportunity to chat with members from Tenby and from other local branches, and to enjoy yet another sunny Tenby day in the wonderful surroundings of Tenby Lifeboat House.
