THE idea and massive enthusiasm of three gentlemen - Mark Wheeler, Louis Scott and Norman Edwards - to undertake raising funds for the RNLI at the historic Athens Classic Marathon 2012 has to be amongst the most prolific charity endurance events that we all read about.

Being family members of Pembroke Ladies Lifeboat Guild vice-president, Shirley Wheeler, proprietor of the Old King's Arms Hotel, Pembroke, the support for the athletes from the people in the town has been unbelievable.

The Guild and the RNLI are very proud to be represented and supported by Norman, Mark and Louis. The final figure will be announced in due course.

Said Norman: "We all completed a very, very demanding marathon course - starting in the City of Marathonas and ending in the original modern Olympics stadium. All three of us achieved PBs - Louis 3.34, Mark 4.08, Norman 3.47.

"We have raised £21,000-plus for the RNLI, the vast majority from Mark Wheeler (£20,000+). From the bottom of our hearts, we say a big thank you for the generous support. For me - that is the last time! - for Mark and Louis well they are well and truly hooked."
