The sky was aglow on Monday night when fire ripped through marshland in the Ritec Valley.

Firefighters from Tenby spent an hour tackling the blaze, which broke out between Penally and Gumreston shortly after 9 pm.

After crossing a brook and walking threequarters-of-a mile, carrying their equipment to the scene, the two crews used beaters to extinguish the large area of grass and bracken that was alight.

"It was very dramatic," said an eye-witness.
