Earlier this year, three members of the Tenby Floral Art Club accepted an invitation to participate in the Worcester Cathedral Flower Festival on August 18. They were told that their task was to depict 'Bell Ropes' in a section of the cloisters. On viewing their allotted area, they were a little stunned to discover that it was about 20-plus feet long and housed six of the old bells of the cathedral - four of which were very big. With very little floor space to work on, the final design was of 'ropes' made of pipe lagging and covered in raffia suspended from the bells from cascading flower arrangements. Four tall leaf pillars represented the ringers, two small arrangements in real coiled rope and two corner columns of flowers completed the design. 'Ringing the Changes' was the title in the programme, and the Tenby workers were delighted to be congratulated on their arrangement. They wish to thank Mrs. Ellen Jenkins for her lesson in St. Mary's Bell Tower, and Mr. Andrew Griffiths for tying the knots in the rope exhibits to show how bells are left hanging. Having taken part in the St. Issell's and St. Mary's Flower Festivals and staging their own festival in St. Julian's Church, the arrangers are looking forward to a break.
