The Ridgeway Local History group were unable to use their usual venue, Skrinkle Youth Hostel, for the March meeting due to electrical problems (writes R.G.).

We met in the warm and comfortable Emmanuel Church at Manorbier and we would like to thank the members for allowing us to do so. Not only was the venue unusual, but the talk was memorable too.

Steve Wilkins, who in his working life was a senior detective with the Dyfed Powys Police, gave a talk on 'Catching the Bullseye killer'. When John Cooper began a life sentence last year, the county lost one of its best darts players. Responsible for a string of offences, including four, possibly five murders, no one can have been sorry to see him go away.

When the Thomases were killed at Scoveston Park, information was stored on cards, and the first computer the force bought actually slowed progress!. He spared us no forensic details and it was amazing to think of how many people became involved in a murder investigation. It was also good to know that local knowledge also plays an important part.

Steve has written a book, also called 'Catching the Bullseye killer', which will be a fascinating read.

We hope to be able to return to Skrinkle for our April meeting, which will be on Wednesday 3rd, at 7.30 pm.
