The Ridgeway History Group continued their summer programme of evening outings with a visit to Chapel Bay Fort on Wednesday, May 7. Twenty-four members were greeted by Major George Geear and then given a guided tour by Mike Hurley, a volunteer at the fort. Some of you may have seen the BBC Wales programme about the restoration being carried out by Major Geear and his small team, but nothing could convey the enormity of the task. Chapel Bay was built in the reign of Queen Victoria and last used in WWII and sadly few people now know of its existence. Major Geear is an urgent need of more assistance. He is willing to welcome an interested group and would love to hear from anyone willing to help in any practical way. Members thoroughly enjoyed an unusual and informative evening.
