A horserider was airlifted to hospital following an accident in South Pembrokeshire on Saturday.

The alarm was raised at 3.44 pm when Milford Haven Coastguard operations room received a call from West Wales Ambulance Control requesting assistance for a 51-year-old female who had fallen from her horse on the beach at Amroth.

Tenby and Manorbier Coastguard Rescue Teams were tasked together with the South Pembs. sector manager to assist with the location and recovery of the casualty, and also to prepare a helicopter landing site for the air ambulance, Helimed 57.

The woman casualty was local to the Whitland area and was on Amroth with her two horses, riding one horse and leading the other. Something spooked the leading horse and pulled her off the one she was sat on.

When units arrived on scene, they assisted with the helicopter landing site and conveyed her to Helimed 57 which then took her to Withybush General Hospital for treatment.

Both horses were recovered to their horsebox and taken home by the casualty's partner.

Officers from Dyfed Powys Police were also on scene.
