The West Wales Local Association of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors recently held its first Annual Ten Pin Bowling Challenge at Phoenix Bowl, Milford Haven.

The evening proved to be a resounding success. A total of 70 took part. These comprised surveyors and their guests, including accountants, architects, solicitors, planners, other professionals and members of the local business community.

The majority of the participants are based in Pembrokeshire. This was the first of three or four proposed RICS 'Relaunch' events. Others will be held in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion over the next few months.

The winners of the challenge were the evening's hosts, the Milford Docks Company. A somewhat embarrassed Andrew Brown (managing director) admitted that he and his colleagues practised regularly. Together with Andrew's son, Alex, and Mike Ashworth, Andrew's team scored 362 points.

In second place with a very creditable 345 points were accountants, Messrs. Llewelyn Davies, represented by Colin John, Ken Randall and their 'guest' Dylan Phillips, borrowed from competitors Ashmoles.

Edward Perkins' B team came third with 319 points. The Rural Surveyors comprised Clare Evans and her fiance Steve who were joined by Steve Owen, of Pembrokeshire County Council. The only other two teams to total at least 300 points were Pembroke accountant Mike Colley's trio and Milford solicitors, Messrs. Price & Kelway.

The fine crafted trophy was presented by West Wales RICS chairman Howard Eynon, buildings manager of Dyfed Powys Police Authority, together with Edward Perkins OBE, a member of the RICS Welsh Regional Board. Howard will be succeeded in June by Nigel Sinnett, development director of Pembrokeshire Housing Association Ltd.

An excellent buffet was enjoyed by all who competed at the fine venue of Phoenix Bowl. Next year's tournament is already well subscribed.
