Tenby juniors attended the first of the Junior Order of Merit competitions recently at Newport (Pembs). The weather was fairly breezy, but dry, and with an early start, the boys showed how to play a links course.
Winner on the day was Richard Morton with an excellent 75 gross, nett 70. Not far behind and in joint third place was Dan Cope with a gross 79, nett 74.
With good contributions also coming from Scott Davies, Tom Hilling and Jack Guerrerio, the Tenby team secured first place in the team event, and the first step towards playing in the West Team Finals.
April has been a busy month for the juniors, with newcomer Scott Davies winning the Midweek Medal in Tenby and also securing the club's April Division One medal last Saturday with a gross 71, nett 66.
Success also for Sam Morgan, who won the Fry Cup over the Easter period with a gross 81, nett 65, and a handicap reduction from 16 to 15. Last Saturday he also won the club's Division Two medal with a gross 83, nett 67, and earned another handicap reduction to 13.
Richard Morton, playing in the Hotels Cup on Easter Sunday, also had the honour of having a hole in one on the 8th, and despite being too young to pay for the drinks, ensured that they were available - although his father wasn't too impressed at picking up the tab!
