Narberth's county councillor Wynne Evans this week stressed the importance of fitting sprinkler systems in newly-built schools across the county. At Monday's cabinet meeting in County Hall, Haverfordwest, it was recommended that further consideration should be given to the installation of  sprinkler systems in new-build schools. This was brought about by a notice of motion submitted by Clr. Evans, after learning at a Narberth school governors meeting that the new school in Jesse Road would not be fitted with a sprinkler system. "I am hopeful that the scrutiny committee will take this further," said Clr. Evans. "As a member of that scrutiny committee, it also allows me to speak on this issue. The new school in Narberth will be fitted  with heat and smoke sensors and fire prevention systems. "The possible cost of £200,000 for a new sprinkler system would be money well spent," added Clr. Evans, who will be giving a full report to the Narberth school governors at their next meeting.
