Towns and villages served by the Tenby and Pembroke Dock MIUs have been urged to make their concerns known about the closure of the units at a meeting to be held in Carmarthen next week.
Speaking at a meeting of Tenby Town Council on Tuesday night, South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network (SEPCHN) secretary, Clr. Caroline Thomas, told her colleagues that the meeting to be held at 1 pm at the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue service HQ in Carmarthen on Thursday, January 26, would be an opportunity for everyone to make their feelings known about the closures and the "dismay and disbelief" that the action has caused.
"Firstly I would like to thank everyone who has helped with the protest against the closure of the MIU, by attending the Tenby public meeting and signing the petition," said Clr. Mrs. Thomas.
"Both were hugely supported, but the fight to make sure that the MIUs at both Tenby and Pembroke Dock are re-opened as soon as possible is still ongoing, and I fear that much more action will be needed to achieve this aim," she continued.
Clr. Mrs. Thomas and the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Trevor Hallett, were due to attend a public meeting at Pembroke yesterday (Thursday) on the Local Health Board's decision, but have asked for as many people as possible to attend next Thursday's discussions in Carmarthen too, with the town council even looking into organising a bus for town's people to travel to the meeting.
"The big action I would like this community to take is for each town and village in South Pembrokeshire, from Angle to Amroth, to show their feelings by sending representatives to the Hywel Dda LHB meeting next Thursday," continued Clr. Mrs. Thomas.
"This meeting should have taken place in Pembrokeshire, but for some reason has been rescheduled to Carmarthenshire. I wonder why? Do they think it is too far for us to travel?
"The public are permitted to attend and allowed to submit questions, so again I ask as many town and community councils as possible to send their questions in.
"The SEPCHN will definitely be sending a question in and I am asking this council in Tenby to submit one too.
"We must make it clear to the Hywel Dda Local Health Board that we are determined to have the MIU services in South Pembrokeshire reinstated and that we will do all we can to achieve this," she added.
Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans was keen for the question to be asked at the meeting as to who specifically made the decision to close the MIUs and could the town council have a copy of the minutes from the Health Board that stated where the decision was taken.
