A petition has been launched this week by a Tenby resident concerned about the safety of pedestrians using the town's Heywood Lane.

Mr. Tony Neighbour, of 6 Heywood Court, is campaigning for a footpath from Heywood Court to Serpentine Road, so that children attending the Junior School and pedestrians, particularly the elderly, walking in that direction do not have to cross the road twice.

Mr. Neighbour is also concerned about the speed and volume of traffic using the road and is calling for a 20 mph speed limit along the stretch of road outside the three schools - Tenby Junior, Heywood Lane Infants and Greenhill - and speed cameras to be erected.

A 20 mph speed restriction within Heywood Court and signs warning motorists that there are elderly residents residing on the estate and the area is used by children playing are also being requested.

Mr. Neighbour has been concerned about the situation for some time now and once he has finished collecting signatures he will be sending the petition to local MP Nick Ainger, Pembrokeshire County Council's highways department, together with Tenby's two county councillors, Michael Williams and Mickey Folland, who he hopes will take action on the matter.
