The second Pembrokeshire Dragon Boat Challenge will be taking place on Saturday, August 22.

Following the success of the first event, which took place in June last year at Milford Haven Docks, the second will be taking place at Llys-Y-Fran Reservoir.

Dragon boat racing originated in China and has developed into a popular western sport, with many professional teams taking part in the UK.

Purely for fun, the event will raising money for charity. The organisers are currently recruiting teams for the event, which requires 16 'paddlers' and a drummer. The boats, paddles and safety equipment are provided for teams and no previous rowing experience is required.

The action is fast and furious, with each team having a minimum of three races over a 250-metre 'sprint' course before the finals take place. There will be prizes for first, second and third places.

In addition to the dragon boat racing, there will be a kite demonstration by Pembrokeshire based kite experts 'High Flyers'. The organisers are hoping to make the event bigger and better than last year by involving local businesses and community groups - if you would like to get involved please contact Emma as soon as possible.
