A groundbreaking exhibition commemorating the Second World War is being launched in Pembrokeshire this month. Sixty years after the war ended, 'Their Past Your Future' looks at the impact of the conflict and its legacy on people and places across Britain. The touring exhibition has been curated by the Imperial War Museum in London and will be hosted by eight venues in Wales, as part of a £10m, 15-month programme of commemorative and educational events. It is supported by the Big Lottery Fund and administered in Wales by the National Library of Wales. The bilingual exhibition, which opens at Haverfordwest Library Gallery on April 4, will explore how the war changed the people and landscape of Britain through case studies, images and printed and audio-visual materials. At its core are personal stories such as that of Jimmy Ritchie, originally from Birkenhead, who was evacuated to Harlech. Mr. Ritchie learnt Welsh and now lives at Conwy. Clr. John Thomas, chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, who will officially open the exhibition, said it was wonderful for people of his generation, who could share and compare experiences. "It's even more important for the younger generation who will benefit from learning about what it was like to live through war and how it has left a lasting legacy, which still shapes our lives today," he said. The exhibition will be officially opened at Haverfordwest's Library Gallery by Clr. Thomas at 7 pm on April 4. It continues until May 9.
