LAMPHEY 2 ST. FLORENCE 3
The visitors went into this game short of six first choice players, and didn't even have a recognised striker. Midfielder Barry Morgan was pushed up front along with Brian John, and amazingly, the two 'dwarfs' won quite a few headers and caused the home defence plenty of problems.
It took the Saints 20 minutes to go ahead with a well-taken goal from Rob Watkins.
The visitors then lost skipper Ian Smith with a hamstring injury. He was replaced by Simon Berridge.
Ten minutes later, Lamphey equalised with a well-taken goal.
But the Saints were really getting stuck in and the midfield of Rob Picton, Rob Watkins and new signing Stuart Adams were playing some nice football, helping the ageing out-of-sorts Ben Blake.
The Saints regained the lead just before the interval when a shot from Dave Conbeer came back off the bar and Barry Morgan tucked the rebound away.
After the interval, the Saints had quite a lot of play and squandered quite a few chances.
The referee had played nearly 15 minutes added time when Lamphey equalised following an error from Steve Briers.
But to Saints' credit, they pushed upfield and scored a good winner from, who else, but a relieved Steve Briers.
The Saints deserved their win and to their credit the back four played well and stuck to their task.
Man-of-the-match Barry Morgan.
Saints manager Paul Griffiths now has a real headache in how to fit in the likes of Joe Lydon, John Lander, Paul Greenwood and Phil Evans.
Saints fielded: Kevin Smith, Chris Smith, Dave Conbeer, Ian Smith, Steve Wilkins, Ben Blake, Rob Picton, Rob Watkins, Stuart Adams, Brian John, Barry Morgan. Subs: Steve Briers, Simon Berridge, Paul Griffiths.
