Following pressure from Simon Hart MP, two newly planted roundabouts at the gateway to South Pembrokeshire are being maintained properly.

The Welsh Assembly Government spent tens of thousands of pounds on an elaborate planting scheme for the two roundabouts at Carew and Sageston last Autumn.

Fears were expressed at the time that there was no proper maintenance plan in place for them and so Mr. Hart raised the issue with the then minister Edwina Hart.

“She reassured me in writing in November that a maintenance plan was being put in place immediately,” explained Mr. Hart.

“However by June this year absolutely nothing had been done, about a third of the plants had died due to drought and it was overrun with weeds.

“I think it is important that these roundabouts were improved, but because they were neglected, they ended up looking worse than before the work was done.

Mr. Hart got in touch with the Welsh Assembly once again to ask what had happened to the maintenance plan - and within days work was being carried out.

“Unfortunately a lot of plants have died because we had such a dry spell ,but I am hopeful that these roundabouts will no longer be two eyesores greeting visitors to the area.”
