NEARLY 400 choristers gathered in Neath's Herbert Sports Centre for a final rehearsal before the concert of the Massed Choirs in the Albert Hall recently. Prominent among them was a full complement of Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir choristers. Other rehearsals in Wales have taken place for choirs located further to the north. The compére and presenter for the Albert Hall is Phil Lloyd, of P&DMVC, a great honour for the choir and for Phil, but well deserved, for he has served the choir and the South Wales Association for more years than he cares to remember. Mr. Alwyn Hughes is conductor. Alwyn, formerly of the Morriston Orpheus, but now freelance, is a fearsome personality when directing rehearsals. The choristers in Neath were put through a very testing and exhausting time. Alwyn is absolutely determined to get what he wants from a choir and will drive them mercilessly until satisfied they have done their very best. Alwyn is pictured with his wife Joy who accompanied on the piano.
