Exceptional site manager Mike Thomas has staked a claim to become one of the best house-builders in the UK, having been named as a champion for Wales in NHBC's 34th annual Pride in the Job Awards.
Selected from around 15,000 site managers across the country, Mike, of South Meadow Homes Ltd, was one of four recognised at a ceremony held at Cardiff City Hall on Friday, winning the Small Builder Category for his Gibb's Way site in Pembroke. He is shortlisted for the competition's Supreme Gala Final in January, where the national champions will be announced.
NHBC is the UK's leading new-home warranty provider.
Peter Watton, NHBC regional director, congratulated Mike on his win: "The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards are the most sought after accolades in the industry, recognising site managers that build high quality homes. Site managers play a critical role in delivering any project, being responsible for overseeing everything that happens on site from start to finish.
"Mike is building some of the very best houses in the UK, demonstrating consistently high standards, and is in the top half a percent of his profession. Anyone buying a home built by one of our winners can do so with confidence in its workmanship and quality."
Prospective home-buyers should look out for special flags and notice boards on site, which mark out sites built by winning managers.
Mike talked about his win: "I like delivering a quality product with the South Meadow Homes team and gaining appreciation from the home owner. It's about getting the best out of people, resolving problems and paying attention to design detail, as well as using any adverse feedback constructively. This award is recognition for South Meadow Homes' hard work and efforts."
Mike has worked in construction for 24 years. He has worked for South Meadow Homes Ltd, a family company, from a young age, and has enjoyed previous success in the competition
