South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns is holding a special meeting today (Friday) to discuss Tenby's regeneration.

It follows on from a summit Mrs. Burns organised a few months ago when business leaders, town councillors, Pembrokeshire planners and regeneration experts met to discuss Tenby's problems.

"We had an excellent gathering that night and a number of issues were raised," said Mrs. Burns.

"This meeting with the head of regeneration at Pembrokeshire County Council is a direct follow-on from that initial summit. We will be looking in some detail now at the specific problems in the town."

Mrs. Burns has given a cautious welcome to the news that the council is now looking into sprucing up the multi-storey car park after she and Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Simon Hart revealed that it earns about £90,000 a year.

"I am glad that they acknowledge it needs work, however I don't think the council's plans go far enough," said Mrs. Burns.

"I am aware that they are investing in CCTV and anti-slip flooring in the stairwells but with the amount of money this facility is creating I think they should make more improvements.

"It needs a proper clean and, most importantly, a lift to make the upper floors accessible to wheelchair users and those with pushchairs."

Mrs. Burns is also concerned to hear that plans for the redevelopment of the Gatehouse have now gone back to the drawing board.

"I know there were worries about what was proposed for this site, but this withdrawal will cause even longer delays in getting the site redeveloped.

"One of the issues that was most strongly raised at the summit was the closure of the pavement around the hotel and we were given assurances that it would be looked at again.

"Unfortunately, issues of responsibility and liability appear to be getting in the way of removing the barriers. I believe there is a responsibility on the council to ensure the pavement is open and functioning as soon as possible and I will continue to press for this."
