When I did last week's report on the Tenby Male Choir concert at St. Johns Church, I was a bit late gathering together the repertoire of our soloist for the evening, but this concert-free week gives me the chance to correct that.
For the concert that night our soloist was Lara Thomas on violin, accompanied by Lisa Richards on piano.
The couple performed four pieces as follows: Ave Maria by Franz Schubert; Hungarian Dance No. 2 by Johannes Brahms; Meditation from the Opera Thais by Massenet; and finally Czardas by Vittorio Monti.
Thank you Lara for a performance thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
Giving opportunities to local soloists, especially young soloists, is something which the choir is very keen on and we are currently looking at a project to further encourage that perhaps with the help of local business organisations.
Our next concert is on Thursday, March 27, when we will be performing at St. Mary's Church, Tenby, in a joint concert with Tideswell Male Voice Choir from Derbyshire. Once again this is chance to see two choirs for the price of one.
Rehearsals will continue every Tuesday and Thursday at the County Club on the Croft at 8 pm.
The choir as a whole remains very active with an average attendance at rehearsals of around 30 people. New members are always welcome though.
We are not an 'audition first' choir and anyone can just come along and sit in.
You don't need to read music and you don't even need to sing, but if and when you wish to join in you can just do so and just join in more as you get to feel comfortable.
Other choir members will always give a helping hand and you will be able to witness the gentle coaxing of our MD 'Wilbur' Williams.
As mentioned last week, I am pleased to announce that the choir has decided to offer its services to private functions on a limited scale. We are trialling this for this season and we have two engagements already.
One of these is a very exciting event when we will be singing in Pembroke Castle for a group of distinguished guests and Lloyds names from London and USA. If you have a wedding or other event where you feel a Male Voice Choir would add to it, then please contact our secretary, David Stewart-Walvin, on 01834 844926.
We cannot guarantee that we will be able to undertake the event, as we have limited availability, but the more notice you are able to give, the better.
There is also information about the choir on our web site http://www.tenbymalechoir.org">www.tenbymalechoir.org and a Facebook account (just do an internet search for Tenby Male Choir Facebook) or you can get more information on anything about the choir on 01834 813198.
