Sir, We are pleased to advise that the Amroth Community Carnival which was held in Amroth on Sunday was by far the most successful turn-out since the event was started five years ago with attendance figures well in excess of 5,000 people. The carnival procession produced substantial floats and due to the size of the procession and the limited access it is regrettable that the roads into Amroth need to be closed for a period of 40 minutes in order to provide sufficient space for turning the procession and to safeguard the many fancy-dressed foot participants. This measure has been undertaken over the last three carnival years and is an express requirement of the carnival committee following consultation with the police, and the police attendance on carnival day was fully supportive in this respect. The inconvenience caused to motorists over the short period of the procession is regrettable, but very necessary, and we extend our sincere apologies to all affected, with thanks for the patience shown by most and we value the attendance in connection with this event. As always, the necessity for access of emergency service vehicles would receive priority during this period if the necessity arose and public safety would not be jeopardised. Amroth Community Carnival has been a major event in Pembrokeshire and the organisation has raised and paid out in excess of £11,000 to local charities in the last 12 months. This event is the culmination of a considerable input from the carnival committee over the months prior to carnival day and all procedures throughout the day are with the full backing of all members. G. James, Joint Chairman, Amroth Community Carnival Group, Community Councillor for Amroth Ward,
Himalaya, Amroth.
