The recent launch of the annual Macmillan 'The World's Biggest Coffee Morning' at Valero's Pembroke Refinery was the 'biggest ever', raising over £1,150. The event was broadcast live on Radio Pembrokeshire.

Valero workers and Macmillan fundraisers joined Valero's new general manager, Ed Tomp, in enjoying coffee and cakes to get the ball rolling in what is becoming an annual fixture for the refinery.

"It's fantastic that this year has been our most successful ever. It's important we do all we can to help people living with cancer and support their families through what is a difficult period of their lives," said Jane James, manager, policy, government and public affairs at Valero's refinery.

The refinery has supported Macmillan for over 21 years, so holding the Pembrokeshire launch at the refinery is a natural progression.

Sue Reece, fundraising manager for Macmillan in south west Wales, said: "The launch at Valero of The World's Biggest Coffee Morning in Pembrokeshire was an enormous success this year, and together with the superb outside broadcast by Radio Pembrokeshire we have hit our target of 500 coffee morning hosts registered in south west Wales - with nearly 100 of these in Pembrokeshire alone."

More than 4,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in south west Wales every year and they all need treatment and support. Macmillan is there for everyone living with cancer, their families and friends, to talk, listen and understand what they are going through and provide them with the right information at the right time.

The money raised will go to helping people affected by cancer in Pembrokeshire and will help Macmillan to continue to provide vital services in the local hospitals and community.
