Wales Air Ambulance has received almost £7,700 from Murco's Milford Haven Refinery this year, as its employees embarked on an array of events to support the air ambulance service throughout 2008.
As its chosen charity of the year, staff at the refinery have pulled out all the stops to raise funds, taking part in events across the UK.
Recently, four employees from Offsites raised £1,020 in the Pembrokeshire Team Challenge. Dave Moore, Leigh Dalton, Des Nicholas and Neil Williams endured the local 40km bike ride, 6km row and 10km run for Wales Air Ambulance. The team was aided by their cox, Adam Picton-James, who helped them with preparations leading up and during the event.
Senior HR advisor Lucy Tallis and her team The Pink Ladies ventured to London to raise £1,600 in the Great River Race - a 22-mile feat down the River Thames.
Employees at the refinery also took part in the Wales Air Ambulance 'Bring £1 to Work' campaign, following a televised appeal from Ricky Tomlinson to donate just £1 each to the charity. The staff managed to raise £181 on the day, which is being match-funded by Murco.
Rhodri Davies, regional fund-raising manager, received the cheque for £7,698.54 from staff at Murco.
He said: "This generous donation is testament to the hard work, time, generosity and continued commitment by the Murco employees. This year the charity has the enormous task of raising over £4 million to upgrade its three helicopters by 2009. All the monies raised will help us take a big step towards reaching that target and ensure we continue to save lives across Wales."
Dave Podratz, general manager at Murco, said: "We are pleased to be continually supporting all our employees and their fund-raising efforts. These donations are vital to the Wales Air Ambulance to ensure that they continue providing a life-saving service".
