On December 3, at St. Brides Spa Hotel, Saundersfoot, Nigel Tranter, general manager of Milford Haven Refinery, presented a cheque to Tonia Forsyth, of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum. Mr. Tranter announced that the refinery would be contributing to the forum's funding for the next three years. The presentation was in front of an audience of just under 70 people from a wide cross-section of interested parties attending a Sustainable Coastal Tourism event hosted by the Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum. The event sought to look at why coastal tourism should be sustainable and how this can be achieved, as well as outlining tourism strategies in place at national and local levels. Speakers for the event were from the Welsh Assembly Government, Pembrokeshire County Council, Pembrokeshire Tourism, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Pembrokeshire College and the TYF Group. Concerns that were aired during the question time included how climate change would affect tourism in Pembrokeshire, access to the coast, water sports tourism and how to encourage all year-round tourism in the county. The event was jointly sponsored by Milford Haven Refinery and St. Brides Spa Hotel. This event on a specific coastal issue is just part of the work of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum who act as independent, unbiased, catalysts and facilitators of such dialogue and communication by all those parties concerned and affected by the health of our coastal zone, whether they be national and local organisations, individual operators and businesses, or the general public.
