Sir, Sincere thanks and congratulations to Mr. Stapleton for his letter giving his views on the 'Silly School Project' (Observer edition Friday, January 9). He should be supported by all the electorate living in Tenby. In that same edition there is an item headed 'Step forward for Welsh education', where the county council states that 74 per cent of all responses indicated a general need to increase Welsh medium provision in order to make it accessible to all Pembrokeshire children. The responsibilities and the responses are what one would expect to get from the minority of the Pembrokeshire members of Plaid, but not the views of the mass of the electors in the county. The leader of the county council states that the use of a Welsh education should not be dictated by geography or location, but by choice. That choice, in Pembrokeshire, should be made clear by a referendum offered to the electors who reside in Pembrokeshire. That referendum should be announced immediately. We await the result.

Ivor Jenkins,

Poynton, Cheshire.
