Two prestigious Irish dancing awards have been brought home to Pembrokeshire, thanks to the flying feet of Sam Davies and Caitlin Thompson. Sam, aged 18, claimed the Under 19 men's championship  in the CRN Irish Open in the Mansion House, Dublin, while nine-year-old Caitlin was the winner of the Under 10 Bun Grad award, ahead of a field of nearly 70 competitors. The success for the pair was particularly special, as it came in the 25th anniversary year of the international Irish dance association CRN (Cumann Rince Naisiunta). There were also medals for Siriol Jenkins (joint third, under 10 Bun Grad), Katie Harries (fifth, under 15 Maen Grad), Carly Davies (ninth, under 15 Ard Grad) and Shannon Robins (eighth, under 11 Bun Grad), while also competing were Alice Davies, Daniel Rolls, Naomi Hunt and Molly Lewis. All the dancers are from the Saundersfoot-based Hynes School of Irish Dancing, which on Sunday hosted dancers from Wales, Ireland and Holland in a competition in memory of the school's founder, Julie Hynes, who died two years ago. At the start of the day, CRN founder member Catherine McCaffrey presented Sam Davies with his magnificent championship trophy and champion's sash and teacher Jenny Hynes with her teachers' winner's medal.
