Pupils at Orielton School have been given a Bronze Sustainable Schools Award.

The award was presented by Clr. Huw George, cabinet member for children and young people, at the start of the school's recyclathon last week.

This is the second year the school has run its recyclathon, where pupils use their imaginations to create sculptures for the school grounds out of reused and waste objects.

Youngsters at the South Pembrokeshire school have also been learning about biodiversity and healthy living.

"Waste management has been the main feature of the school gaining the Bronze Award," said Mike Owen, headteacher.

"This has led to the school creating its own recycling cabin and several recycled themed gardens using waste material from a variety of sources"

The Sustainable Schools Award recognises efforts to improve the local environment and quality of life now without damaging the planet for future generations.
