On May 22, a 7.30 am start saw a record 28 people competed in this year's Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club annual triathlon. The race, organised for novice competitors, as well as seasoned competitors, was based in both Haverfordwest swimming pool and cricket club, and this year included a nine competitors who successfully completed their first triathlon - and from the smile on their faces as they crossed the finishing line most enjoyed the occasion. The novice winners were St. Davids schoolboy, Tom Wye, producing three solid split times to secure a remarkable fourth place overall, and Rhiannon Ace, who produced the fastest female bike split and fourth fastest run overall. Ellie Jones regained the overall female title she won in 2003. In the male category, it was a very close finish. Matt Brown led out of the swim, but was overhauled by Roger Devonald and Dave Astins, during the bike. Devonald held a 15 second lead heading out onto the run, but Astins managed to catch him on the run to take the title. The club would like to thank everyone who gave up their Sunday morning to help out, to Haverfordwest swimming pool and Haverfordwest Cricket Club for the use of their facilities, Morrisons for the use of the crates for transition, and to Higgon's Well for donating 40 bottles of water. Anyone thinking about giving triathlon a go is welcome at any of the club sessions where advice on all aspects of triathlon is on hand. The club holds weekly training sessions as well as a series of time trials for swimming, cycling and running.
