Pembrokeshire Leisure’s Go-Tri 2016 series was launched on Sunday at Crymych.

It was the first race of four mini triathlons, a super sprint taster triathlon and an Olympic distance duathlon to be held this year.

Held in partnership with Princes Gate Spring Water, the series is as follows: Crymych Super Sprint Triathlon: Sunday, April 17 (swim 200m, bike 10km, run 1.6km); Fishguard Triathlon: Sunday, May 29 (swim 400m, bike 20km, run 5km); Tenby Triathlon: Sunday, June 5 (swim 400m, bike 20km, run 5km); Milford Triathlon: Sunday, July 17 (swim 400m, bike 20km, run 5km); Haverfordwest Triathlon: Sunday, August 21 (swim 400m, bike 20km, run 5km).

The events are organised by Pembrokeshire Leisure (Pembrokeshire County Council’s leisure service) - with the support of local triathlon clubs and volunteers from local sports clubs. They are complemented by Go-Tri fitness sessions at Pembrokeshire’s leisure centres.

“The Go-Tri series has inspired hundreds of people every year to improve their fitness and helped Pembrokeshire Leisure towards its goal of making more people more active, more often,” said Clr. Elwyn Morse, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure.

The series also been awarded an Inspire Mark - a badge of quality that recognises innovative projects inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

First across the line was Gareth Payne who won the male category, with Daryl John winning the veteran’s section and Martin Evans the Super Vet category.

Catherine Marks was the first female to finish, while Jane Rees was the first veteran female.

“If you’re an experienced triathlete, a relative novice or looking for something different to try, we hope that our events will provide an enjoyable and challenging experience,” said Gary Nicholas, of Pembrokeshire Leisure.
