A literature-loving local opticians is celebrating new writing talent, as seven debut authors are named in the 2012 TV Book Club shortlist.
Staff at Specsavers, Dimond Street, Pembroke Dock, are looking forward to the new series of the TV Book Club, which returns to More4 on January 29. The show is sponsored by Specsavers.
Gary Owen, director of Specsavers in Pembroke Dock, said: "We're pleased to be supporting The TV Book Club for a fifth season and really looking forward to the new series later this month, which will launch lots of new writing talent onto the high street.
"For many people, reading is the first time that they notice a problem with their eyesight, which is where we can help. We love books and are passionate about helping people to enjoy crisp, clear pages."
The new series features debut novels from a NHS audiologist who wrote between shifts, a police intelligence analyst, a former women's refuge worker and an investment manager, who are just four of the ten authors picked from thousands.
The 10-part series features a celebrity panel that includes Meera Syal, Dave Spikey, Laila Rouass, Rory McGrath and new presenter Caroline Quentin coming together to critique a new title each week. Viewers are invited to interact with the show, reading along and sending in their own reviews.
The new titles have been carefully chosen by a panel headed by Amanda Ross, managing director of Cactus TV.
Amanda said: "All the titles on this year's list will scream 'don't put me down' at the reader. Although all my choices are, as always very different in style and content, their common factor is that they are all really great reads and the viewers will be torn when the time comes for them to vote for their favourite to win the accolade Best Read at the end of the series."
A free TV Book Club magazine, which includes author interviews and summaries of all the books featured in the series, is available to take away at all Specsavers stores
