Last Wednesday, a group of children from St. Johns Junior Church, Pilots and friends, undertook to read continuously from 10 am to 6 pm. Their aim was to raise funds for Health Help International in Zambia. Health International is run by Mr. Ron Prosser who spends much of his time in Monza, Zambia, working with the sick and underprivileged. St. Johns have had a long association with HHI in the past and supported the purchase of ambulances, medical equipment, clothing etc.
With the additional help of a coffee morning, which brought in extra visiting children to help with the reading, and a donation from the Welsh cake ladies, a total of £500 was achieved. A magnificent effort. The children would like to thank everyone who made this possible.
As well as achieving their aim of reading for a total of eight hours without stopping, in the afternoon, while they were waiting to read, the young people had a lot of fun making various craft items. These were on display in the church on Pentecost Sunday, much to the enjoyment of the congregation.
Thanks must also go to New Hedges Mini Market who donated chocolates, Four Seasons for a basket of fruit, Elements floristry, for flowers and Sandyhill Nursery for a a flowering plant, as raffle prizes. Thank you very much everyone.
Pilots is held every Friday at 6 pm - 7.30 pm in the large schoolroom at St. Johns Church, Tenby, for children between the ages of six and 14. If you feel you would like to join in the fun, do please go along.
