Sir, For the last 18 months, the Royal British Legion in conjunction with Pembrokeshire County Museum Services, have been running in the county a 'Pilot Scheme' Schools Programme This programme is aimed at bringing the experiences of veterans of the last world war to the count's school children. The school curriculum encompasses this era within the History aspect. We have named this project 'The Echoed Voices'. We have during this time produced a DVD of 'The War in Pembrokeshire' and all schools in the county will be receiving a copy of this, together with a very comprehensive 'school pack' full of details, facts and figures of all we are attempting to set up and 'in depth' CVs of the veterans taking part in the scheme. The scheme has drawn the attention of not only the schools themselves and the county director of education, but the Minister of Education at the Welsh Assembly and the HQ of the British Legion in London. The project is a benchmark development for Wales and we have been assured that should it prove a success within the county, it will be a 'roll-out' development for not only the rest of Wales, but the whole of the UK. There is a lot happening at present, with the corporate management team in London HQ actively seeking sponsorship for the scheme from the county's businesses. What we are desperately in need of more than anything is more WW2 veterans willing to take part in the scheme. We have at present a nucleus of four veterans, but we really need at least 12 to cater for all of the county's schools and, to this end, I am asking please, for your assistance in this matter. Would you be so kind as to run a 'plea for assistance' to the county's veterans to come forward and volunteer to assist us in this project. It will not cost them anything but their time and the rewards they would gain can be attested to by our present veterans taking part.
