The first flock of ‘Soay Sheep’ have arrived on Caldey Island, to add to the natural grazers all playing their part in developing the island as a haven for wildlife conservation and the preservation of animal breeds particularly at risk.

Additions to the flock will be arriving in due course, and it’s hoped that numbers will be about 100 in the next eighteen months or so, which can only be good news for this rare breed, currently listed as ‘at risk’.

Their hardy nature and suitability to live in an often wild island environment make them an ideal addition to the ongoing development of ‘Conservation Caldey.
