Sir,
We thank Clr. Jamie Adams (September 17) for replying to our letter (September 3) and for the offer of a site meeting which we shall be pleased to take up. The councillor makes a variety of general points. Also specific ones such as use of land, approved access, existing access, good visibility for vehicles turning in from the west, good visibility in both directions for vehicles exiting, destroying as little roadside hedge as possible. Unfortunately, all these observations are irrelevant to the point made in our letter about drivers having to reverse round a blind bend.
And it is not the case that, soon after receipt of our letter an officer called us. Having had no reply, we phoned him.
It seems a strange world where letters are not responded to unless a question is asked. Perhaps letters to the council should end with: 'Are you going to answer this letter?'
Yes, it is reasonable that site meetings represent different parties. But in this case, owing to a changed application, local residents had only 10 days to object, and nobody was told when a representative of Highways would be there.
If the councillor would re-read our letter and ascertain in which direction large vehicles would be travelling when they go 'over to their right before swinging left to get through the 3.5m entrance' our point about other drivers having to reverse round a blind bend should be clear.
It might still be an advantage to know where Rapper Hill is.
Residents of
Clayford Road.
