Police have issued a safety warning this week to members of the public who are disregarding the advice of sentries at Penally Range when live firing is taking place.

Despite being advised of the potential dangers and of their breaches of the local range by-laws, some walkers have insisted on continuing on their walk through the range.

"The potential for injury due to such reckless behaviour is obvious, and local police will enforce the range by-laws in the interests of public safety," a police spokesman said.

Officers have also become aware that children/youths are entering the firing butts during evenings and weekends.

"Again the potential for injury due to misuse of target mechanisms and live ammunition is obvious," the spokesman added.
