Tenby's Railway Station could be a suitable site for the town's tourist information centre, it was suggested this week.
At Tuesday's meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Mickey Folland commented about the lack of staff at the railway station during the summer.
A letter from Julian Viggers, station manager for Wales and West Trains based in Carmarthen, pointed out that this had been caused by staff shortages caused by sickness levels of staff based at Carmarthen which had "stretched resources to the limit," although he had endeavoured to staff Tenby station as best as possible.
Clr. Folland revealed that two local people had helped a great many train passengers on a voluntary basis during the summer, advising them of times of trains, but felt that Wales and West Trains needed to address the situation more adequately.
"Perhaps we could have a meeting with them in the early spring to see what their plans are," he suggested. "We must have that station manned, at least for the summer season."
Clr. Miss Lis James pointed out that Pembrokeshire County Council were considering moving the town's tourist information centre from it's present location on The Croft.
"Perhaps they should consider the railway station as a suitable location," she commented. "It would be easy for people to park and would be able to provide information to rail passengers."
