Sir, Over a thousand aircrew and ground staff lost their lives at RAF St. Eval between 1939 and 1959 whilst the station was operational. In April 2005, an historic ceremony took place unveiling a granite memorial at the gateway to St. Uvelus Church, St. Eval. Whilst not much remains of the airfield today, it was one of the largest operational stations during World War 2. All ranks from the RAF, WAAF and WRAF, or next of kin, who served at RAF St. Eval, are invited to join the RAF St. Eval Coastal Command Association. The association has two reunions a year (April and October) and newsletters are produced in January and July. Information regarding the above is available from Jude Durant, tel. 01332 572948 or Fred Abbott, tel. 01255 434424.
