A young Tenby pupil has been praised for his quick thinking and first aid skills in helping his mum who collapsed unconscious near to his school.
Seven-year-old Harry Wilkins, who is a pupil at Ysgol Hafan Y Mor, came to the aid of his mother Emma last month, when she passed out on the pavement on their way home from the school situated in Heywood Lane.
“I suffer with blood pressure and on this occasion suffered a seizure of sorts and collapsed, but luckily Harry was with me and knew what to do,” explained Emma.
“He could see that my breathing was getting difficult and called for help. “
Harry put me into the recovery position, made sure my airway was clear and even tried to perform CPR... I’m not quite sure where he learnt that, but he is very sensible... or maybe he has been watching plenty of Casualty on TV!
“Obviously I had no recollection of any of this, but an ambulance was called, and others, including mums from the school also arrived on the scene to help.
“Harry stayed with me to look after me and provided ambulance staff with details, before his older brother Rhys arrived.
“I’m so proud of him and how calm he stayed throughout the whole ordeal. I’d also like to thank everybody who helped and showed concern,” continued Emma.
Cadwaladers Coffee Shop has presented the school with a ‘reward voucher’ as part of an initiative to encourage kindness in the local community, with Harry chosen as the worthy recipient.
“Harry will be enjoying a special sundae at Cadwaladers in Tenby as soon as he can!” added Emma.
