A question mark appears to be hanging over the site identified for Narberth's new primary school.
Land immediately south of the town's Jesse Road had been earmarked for the new community facilities, but at a meeting of the town council this week, fears were expressed that the plans for the building could be delayed and funding could be lost.
Following a meeting of the school governors, Clr. Malcolm Connah told fellow councillors at their monthly meeting on Tuesday night that there was "great concern" about the new school site which had been identified in the Pembrokeshire County Council and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's proposed joint unitary development plan for the county.
Although the county council were working towards obtaining funding, there were "strong rumours" that the owner may not co-operate with a compulsory purchase order, which could possibly lead to an appeal, Clr. Connah explained.
"I can see a situation arising that the money will be made available, but because of a significant delay in the acquisition of the site, the money will be diverted elsewhere," said Clr. Connah, who had attended the governors meeting along with fellow council member, Colin Williams.
As a result, the governors had agreed to write to Pembrokeshire County Council asking for an alternative plan to be put in place.
Members of the council also agreed with this course of action and will also write to the authority asking for a 'Plan B' to be considered.
