Last Thursday, the Quaynotes Mixed Choir got the Carew 500 tournament off to a wonderful musical start when, with their comrades from La Volta, they gave a performance of religious and ancient music at St. Mary's Church, Carew. The evening, well-attended and well-received, saw the choir in fine voice under musical director Sharron Lusher with such lovely old pieces as  Mozart Ave Verum, Morte  Christe and Speed Your Journey, supported  by Bronwen Hicks, whose solo version of 'Thanks for the Lord's Prayer' added to everyone's enjoyment of the evening After the interval, the congregation were entertained by renaissance music played on period instruments by the players of La Volta. The choir was pleased to see renowned musicians and good friends of the choir, John and Maureen Mitchinson, in the audience, as both have given freely of their skills and time to help the choir develop musically. It will be interesting to hear their highly valued opinion of the performance. The choir take a short break before returning to their practice sessions at the end off the month. Rumour has it that the male choristers are going to be given much-needed added tuition, so watch this space, or better still, if you are musical, join them for Thursday practices. You will be made most welcome.
