The Pembrokeshire NFU Early Potato Conference signals the start of the season and is to be addressed by Graham Nicholls who is National Chairman of the NFU Potato Committee of England and Wales. The Conference this year take a slightly different format in that it is being held by kind permission of Pembrokeshire NFU's National Potato Delegate, Mr. David John, at Lammaston Farm in Pembroke tonight (Friday) commencing at 5 pm.
The British Potato Council will also be bringing their promotional double decker bus which will have been at Tescos Stores in Haverfordwest earlier in the day.
The conference draws together growers, merchants and allied industries in what is one of the oldest of its type and the only one dedicated to the early crop. Everyone interested in the local early potato trade is welcome. Light refreshments will be provided.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the presentation of prizes for the crops competition which as drawn a record entry. The competition will have been judged jointly by Mr. Senny Hathway, of Angle and Mr. Robert Bache, former independent agronomist in Pembrokeshire.
