Imagine the shame of having your cakes rejected by that bastion of home-cooking, the Country Markets. Unsurprisingly, it does happen and for very good reason, says Ella Ferguson, market advisor to the Country Markets network in Pembrokeshire. "We have got our reputation to maintain and if the goods aren't up to standard we just can't sell them, it's as simple as that,' said Mrs. Ferguson, who sells her cakes at the Saundersfoot Country Market. "We have occasionally had to reject cakes and other items, perhaps they are under-cooked, over- cooked, not packaged correctly; there are many reasons. We really can't afford to compromise our reputation by selling sub-standard goods.' There are 10 Country Markets in Pembrokeshire and the majority runs throughout the year. Their profile is being raised through the publication of a leaflet which informs the public all there is to know about the county's network. The bilingual leaflet has been developed by PLANED with financial support from the EU-funded, LEADER+ programme, and Menter a Iaith which promotes the use of the Welsh language.
