Sir,
I was interested to read that Meyrick Brown considers the county's electricity pylons to be redundant scrap metal (Straws in the Wind, June 4). Far from it! Now that Pembroke power station has been demolished, the power lines are bringing all our power into the county. Without them Pembrokeshire would return to the dark ages, with no electric lighting, heating, television, computers or any of the other 'essentials' of modern life. Even the Tenby Observer would have to return to the days of hand-operated presses!
If we want the convenience that electricity brings us we have to pay a price, and the sight of transmission towers, to give them their proper name, is a small price to pay. In any case, they remind me of 30 happy years in the electricity industry.
